Principles of Animation

Disney list of principles of animation.

1. Squash and stretch- the animator needs to define character and settings to be able to create shape during action.

2. Timing- Spacing actions to define weight and size of the objects to and the personality of the character.

3. Anticipation- create anticipation through the preparation of action.

4. Staging- presenting the ideas clearly

5. Follow through and overlapping action- relationship between actions.

6. Straight ahead and pose to pose action- two contrasting approaches to the creation of movement

7. Slow in and out- spacing needs to be considered and timing off movement

8. Arcs- visual path of action for natural movement.

9. Exaggeration - eccentric movement and characters ideas.

10. Secondary action- consider action for secondary characters

11. Appeal - create idea audience enjoys watching.
