CGI and Claymation

Animation has constantly developed in terms of films and TV starting from using persistence of vision using spinning images or projectors. But in film claymation and CGI have been very big in films with titles such as Nightmare before christmas for CGI and then Toy story setting the bar for CGI animation. The development of these techniques have only been possible through the early inventions and pioneers.

Claymation is creating characters and movement from clay and taking still images to make 24 images a second to make movement look fluid and natural whilst still been unreal. This takes the principles back to early animation and the use of quickly projecting images to create movement which takes the same principles all the way back to inventions like the zoetrope. With claymation you have to take in the principles on the previous page depending on which style you are trying to create. Also you have to pay extra attention to consistent lighting and character placement and movement.

CGI is computer generated imagery and has been a new type of animation and film compared to most. CGI gives the animators greater boundaries and realism to work with. Also 3D is now possible in cinema and has been used in allot of CGI animation to give the audience a different viewing experience. CGI also creates a virtual world which can be so unrealistic which maybe not possible with other types of animation and any characters can be placed in this virtual world. Whilst having a realistic character for the audience to be able to relate to.
